I loved the sunshine. I couldn't see it, but I could feel it, laying across my skin like a blanket of heat. It was a comforting feeling.
A good thing too, because today was not a comforting day.
"You realize what has to be done, correct?" my boss was asking me as I basked out in the sun. My sightless eyes were closed, like it mattered, but I was in tune to everything around me. I scrunched up my nose and turned my head towards his voice.
"Of course." was my reply. I understood crystal clear what was being asked of me.
I could hear him shuffling around restlessly. "I don't like pawning you off, Andy, as much as it sounds like I enjoy it, I really do not," came his morosevoice, drifting towards me. "Your a good kid, and you have alot to live for. I promise this will be the last thing. Then everything will be over."
I snorted. It wasn't very ladylike, but I didn't feel like being a lady at the time. "So, you take away my eyes, my dignity, my body - basically -, my life, and all you can say is you don't enjoy it?" I reached over and took a sip of my wine. Red, of course. "That's pretty manly of you, sir, I compliment you on being a complete idiot."
Too bad I couldn't see his face. I bet he would be confused. "I beg your pardon?" Guess I was right. I took another sip of my win before sitting up perfectly straight.
"I hate you, I hate this job, and to be honest, you stink like a wet dog. I am glad my vision is gone, because I wouldn't want to see half the guys you set me up with, your friends? Love to talk about you behind your back. Your own wife is cheating on you, with your gardener. I caught them this morning. I don't blame her, your too busy pimping out people like me to pay attention to people like her." I stated to him, smiling a bit.
